Joyce Wang, founder of the eponymous interiors studio, includes Baea in her opulent design for a West London luxury development.

On London’s Queenway, department store Whiteleys — once described as “the most beautiful” in the United Kingdom — has been transformed into The Whiteley, a brand new collection of luxury apartments, retail spaces and a hotel. Among the Designer Collection series residences are three units that have each been interpreted by a leading interior visionary, creating unique living environments replete with designer furniture, original artworks and book collections. For Joyce Wang’s design, the fine ingredients even included the finest bedding, in the form of Baea’s Merrow in Sand, Storm, Coralweed and Pebble colourways — bringing an extra special touch to the apartment’s four en suite bedrooms.

The selection is reflective of the exquisite attention to detail evident in every aspect of the home’s design, and indeed the realisation of The Whiteley itself. While all the apartments are newly constructed, the building's original Grade II-listed facade has been meticulously restored by world-renowned architecture practice Foster + Partners. Behind it, apartments such as the one beautifully transformed by Joyce and her team, boast six metre tall walls and floor to ceiling windows.

The spirit of William Whiteley, founder of the former department store, is evident throughout. His namesake emporium was famed for stocking the finest goods imported from around the world, something Joyce has reflected in an interior scheme that portrays the home’s as-yet-unknown occupants as globetrotters with a taste for luxury. In addition to sumptuously soft Baea bedding, the apartment features exclusive pieces from Irish furniture brand Orior, multiple antique chandeliers from Porta Romana, rugs from CC Tapis Milan and two specially commissioned wall pieces by Colombian artist Armando Mesías. The ready-to-read library comes courtesy of Ultimate Library and Cahiers d’Art who supplied a limited extensive catalogue of Picasso's paintings and drawings.

It’s a truly international approach from a designer with global reach. To date, Wang's studio has achieved recognition for projects including hotels, restaurants and private residences in Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and the UK. As a company that also thinks globally, it’s been a thrill for us at Baea to work with Joyce and her team on a project that genuinely values good design and the importance of choosing the finest quality items when creating a home.
